BACK TO HOLIDAYS

 

I think one of the reasons that Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, has nothing to do with presents or commercialism or days off work, but the fact that the American traditions of Christmas, while centuries in the making, owe a great deal to the Victorians for our current customs, and I am a very big fan of Victoriana.

Also, I am very interested in my genealogy and heritage, and two of the biggest cultures that permeate my entire family line, German/Dutch and Irish/Scottish/English/Manx, are both steeped in numerous Christmas traditions that have lived on 'til today.

I find Christmas customs interesting and enlightening, because many people do not realize just how new some of our traditions really are, and don't realize that because of this, our own generation could very well start some of its own. And perhaps it already has...
