This page contains information on the Power Levels for new PC's, information on NPC's and game balance, and power level Caps. Everything on this page applies to all PC's in all Genres, regardless of what type of character you are making.

This does not include specific restrictions for individual genres. Anything specific to only one genre is on the individual Genres Rules Page. Be sure to read both before submitting a sheet.

CREATING A CHARACTER FOR OUR GAME

[A] POWER LEVELS FOR NEW CHARACTERS:

Power levels for starting characters will be explained in detail in on the rules page for the individual genre you are playing. All starting characters will be just exactly that. You may have as many dots as the book allows for new characters in your genre. We do not run the sort of game where NPC's bully the new guys, so don't ask for extra dots to "help you survive." They are not needed.

[B] GRANDFATHERED PCs

Since we are now far into nWOD 2.0, there is no longer a need for Grandfathered PCs.

Some 1.0 players were permitted to carry over exp from one PC of their choice to a new mortal, as a reward for completing the 1.0 & TOJ game, but that is all the grandfathering there is in this game. This ended in 2005. Any 1.0 players returning now who did not complete TOJ may no longer grandfather in a prior PC or the XP from a prior PC. You have missed your window.

[C] POWER LEVEL OF NPCs:

There are powerful characters in this game. They serve some specific purpose. They are not there just to kick the new people's asses.

[1] WHY DO THE OPS GET ALL THE "GOOD" CHARACTERS?:

The Ops have the right and the duty to run a high level NPC as needed in a storyline. You may not. The World of Darkness will always contain something bigger than you in it, and that something belongs in the hands of an ST, not a fellow player. We also sometimes run brand new characters that are weaker than many PC's, as we see fit for the sake of the story.

[2] WHY DO ALL THE OPS’ FRIENDS GET POWERFUL PC'S AND I DON’T?:

That is not actually what happens. There are a few long time players who got to carry over some 1.0 experience as a reward for enduring the 3+ OOC years of rigor involved in playing Time of Judgment, and that XP only went to one new mortal PC of their choice. We felt they should have some kind of a cookie for putting up with the horrible things that we did at the end of the world. Other than that, everyone gets the same. If someone has more XP than you, they earned it. The nWOD Chronicle began in 2005. Plenty of time to RP.
